General information for publishers
The IDNV is the official database for Printed Music and Musical Products in Germany, the conception, development
and promotion of which is supported by the German Music Publishers Association (DMV) and German Music Retailers Association (GDM).
Above all, the IDNV Project is meant for professional users, such as publishers, traders and libraries.
With the IDNV, their daily work can be sped up and generally made easier.
Besides, the IDNV is the ideal instrument for collecting and focusing the whole trade´s supply in one complete high-grade catalogue which is easily recognized by target groups. Diffusion of the catalogue via retailers to musicians and other clients means widening the retail market.
Additionally, an international cooperation concept will be built up in the medium term, facilitating the use of IDNV technology
and infrastructure worldwide. For this, IDNV partners will be acquired in various countries who will see to the
requirements of publishers and trade in their respective areas.
The IDNV provides three services: software technology, editing and marketing.
With the powerful software that is made available to subscribers, publishing houses are always provided with the latest technology and therefore are always up to date, even without an IT department of their own.
With already existing IT systems, interface links can of course be integrated.
Depending on participation and agreements, IDNV editorial staff can even administer a subscriber´s own entire
catalogue, whilst still maintaining the IDNV catalogue's overall standardised quality.
State of the art technology and a convincing database are the two major requirements needed from the start.
However, nothing will happen just like that. The IDNV also stands with an underlying marketing concept and the appropriate
commercial know-how.
The IDNV Project will be implemented in several steps.
Step 1. Catalogue: construction and regular updating of a high-grade catalogue.
Step 2. Ordering system: efficient communication between trade and publishers.
Step 3. Polishing, consolidating and follow-up projects on the basis of acquired infrastructure.
The first step has been completed. At present, step 2 will be released very soon. For step 3, interesting developments
are planned, such as the expansion into an international partner network, or a multimedia extension of the catalogue.
